"To be a sustainable entrepreneur means leading with responsibility"

Jenny Vargas is an entrepreneur who decided to break barriers and now leads a company recognized for its innovation and commitment to automotive sustainability.

This mother of five, a resident of San Ramón de Alajuela, took a leap at 38 and founded Taller Automotriz JyJ, a business that has carved a niche in a budding industry: servicing electric vehicles.

For Vargas, being a sustainable entrepreneur means leading with responsibility by promoting the use of electric vehicles to reduce carbon emissions. Her mission is rooted in a commitment to the environment and future generations.

One of her greatest challenges has been shifting public perceptions about electric vehicles and ensuring her team is continually trained in new technologies.

“My greatest satisfaction is seeing happy customers and knowing that we’re contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable future,” she shares.

Empretec: A step towards growth

In 2022, Vargas joined CELIEM’s community of MSMEs through the program "A mamá le tengo fe" and later participated in the Empretec workshop. “That opportunity provided me with valuable tools to enhance the management of my workshop, foster an inclusive work environment, and develop effective strategies for business growth,” the entrepreneur noted.

Her experience with Empretec inspired her to submit her business project for the Empretec Award, where she won first place. Today, Jenny is also part of the Evolución Pyme program, which we developed in collaboration with Banco Nacional, focusing on sustainable businesses.

“Proudly, I am an Empretec entrepreneur, the winner of the 2024 Empretec Award, and a sustainable entrepreneur,” Vargas concluded.
